Despite the name, the Ten Gods are not deities. They are the ten possible relationships between your Day Master and every other stem in your chart — labels for how energy behaves.

| Indirect Wealth 偏财 | Unexpected money: commissions, windfalls, money that arrives through other people. Points to an entrepreneurial streak with money. |
| Direct Officer 正官 | Structure, reputation, and the rules you accept. Shows how you handle authority and how much you care about being seen as respectable. |
| Seven Killings 七杀 | Pressure and competition. The same energy as Direct Officer but turned up — raw drive, harder edges, more risk. |
| Direct Seal 正印 | Support that arrives without effort: mentors, education, protection. The sign of someone who is looked after. |
| Indirect Seal 偏印 | Unconventional thinking. Insight that does not come from teachers but from intuition — brilliant, and harder to explain. |
| Food God 食神 | Output in its comfortable form: creativity, expression, ease. The sign of someone who produces well when relaxed. |
| Hurting Officer 伤官 | Output with an edge. Talent that questions authority and refuses to be managed — often where artistic ability lives. |
| Companion 比肩 | People like you: peers, siblings, competitors. Shows how much you rely on your own effort versus other people's. |
| Rob Wealth 劫财 | Rivalry and shared resources. Ambition that takes what it wants rather than waiting its turn. |
Start from the Day Master — the stem of your birth day, which represents you. Every other stem in the chart is then one of ten things relative to it: something that supports you, something you produce, something that constrains you, something that competes with you.
The month pillar's god carries the most weight, because the month pillar is the strongest pillar in the chart. If your month god is Direct Wealth, earning is a central theme of your life. If it is Hurting Officer, you will spend your life pushing against structures — and probably produce good work doing it.
