The Chinese system is based on a 12-year cycle of animals tied to the lunar year, and it is only one layer — BaZi (Four Pillars) adds the month, day and hour for a far more specific reading.
Why is my zodiac sign different from what I was told?
Almost always because of the date. The Chinese zodiac year does not start on 1 January — it starts at Chinese New Year, which falls somewhere between 21 January and 21 February. If you were born in January or early February, check the exact Chinese New Year date for your birth year before deciding.
